Natalie: I began this project by placing friends and family in my shoots. I asked them to take full control over my camera and photograph any tree that caught their eye. I didn’t help them with any camera settings or tips; I left everything up to them. I then let them edit their respective photos and I printed them out on a piece of five by seven photo paper. After printing each image, I asked each photographer to send me photos of trees that they had taken on their own phones. I printed these photos as well.

Throughout my images, you will see many different areas of a tree depicted, portrayed in different editing styles. I picked trees because they symbolize life and growth, a motif that I have worked with often. I wanted to work with the idea of growth and have my friends/family grow in an artistic way that they may not necessarily involve themselves in otherwise.
