Water
Identity defines perception: what we sense is created by our respective pasts. The wind in our hair and the crackle of leaves beneath our feet on an autumn morning; the way the fire glints and whispers as a winter day fades to night; the feeling of gliding under the water, weightless, watching the sun’s rays dance across the waves; the grittiness of dirt between our fingers, filtering and falling to the ground - all these sensations connect us to memories buried deep within us, memories that define who we are as individuals and inform our actions even in the present. For this exhibition, I encouraged five people close to me to investigate their individual relationships to the elements, using them as a medium through which to interview and to observe my subjects. I asked them to be vulnerable and honest with me and with themselves, to use these opportunities to dive into who they are and why they are that way.
